12 Days to support GVZQ Rain Forest

Grand Valley Zoological Quest teaming with MyActions.org to RECYCLE FOR THE RAINFOREST!

Take a walk. Turn off a light. How do you recycle?
Tell Zoo Quest on MyActions.org and you can help the Earth, and you help build the GVZQ Rain Forest locally.
Beginning Dec, 1st and ending Dec. 13th, share your action of recycling, saving power, walking, biking, on the MyActions.org website and earn funding points for the Zoo!
This quick 12-day campaign will raise funds while you’re taking actions toward helping the planet at the same time. Go to MyActions.org for examples of what counts for points.

Join GVZooQuest.org to build a Rain Forest zoological nature center in Fruita.

Fruita Chamber Matters

Even in the cold months things are happening with the Zoo Quest. We are members of the Fruita Chamber of Commerce, and tonight they had a weekly meeting. Next week they plan to send out their Chamber Matters newsletter.
Here is an example of our pages of appreciation to the Chamber and Community of Fruita for all their support this September and October. (Oops, technical difficulties. I'll try again tomorrow.) Stay tuned.

Zoo Traveling last month

Over Fall Break I had the opportunity to tour behind the scenes one of the oldest and biggest zoos in Seattle, Washington.
Woodland Park Zoo

That's my boys and my daughter-in-law at the entrance to 92 acres of exotic animal fun.

We are trying to get enough funds to build our own Zoological Center here in the Grand Valley of Western Colorado. We are going to be much smaller, but everyone starts small.
The nicest people took us behind the enclosures and into the commissary, animal hospital, and workshops to show us how they build and maintain the zoo.

Of course it rained. . . It's Seattle, where it rains nine months out of the year, but we still enjoyed our visit inside and out of the Woodland Park Zoo.
You have to see at least two pictures of the animals.
This little Red Panda was hurt, so he was in the animal hospital.

This male jaguar looked relaxed as a wire wound too tight.

Look for more pictures next week.

More supporters of the Zoo Quest

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, worked, visted and created all of the GVZQ activities at the Fruita Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Tracy Barron was the artist, designer, the brains behind the beauty of the Float/Bed Race entry.

Tracy was also behind the Girls Scout artists who created small colorful parrot figures which the girls and their family members carried beside the float during the parade.

Zoo Quest looking good at Fall Festival

Zoo Crew did great in their first public event at the Fruita Fall Festival, Saturday, Sept. 29.
Our first-time ever entry won 3rd place in the annual Bed Race
The same bed frame became our "Parrot-osauras" float down Main Street. The float was awesome with Girl Scouts maraching along side it, and Alicia wearing Amora, the red-tailed boa snake.
Then the booths! Seven hundred plus people went through the Grand Valley Zoological petting zoo. That was great.
We heard good comments, good ideas, and lots of good luck wishes in our QUEST to build a zoo in Fruita.

Join us two more times in October:

This Saturday, Oct. 6, come to the BOO IN THE ZOO II at Dinosaur Journey from 10 to 3 p.m.
Come in costume if you like. The kid in all of us likes "creepy, crawly things and other surprises."

October 20th, come to Kokopelli Plaza to enjoy ZOO-BELIEVE.
We are planning a car show, music, vendors and the Plaza businesses. All will be open for your pleasure: The Feedlot, Kokopelli Animal Clinic, Pableo's pizza, Rib City, Entrom's candies, and other businesses during that block party, 11-4.
This will be the last event for the petting zoo before they go inside for the winter.
When we get the ZOOlogical center built (with community support), you can visit the exotic birds, reptiles, other creatures all year long!
See you there!
